Paarl Royals owned by Royals Sports appointed South African batter David Miller as the skipper of the inaugural season of Cricket South Africa’s T20 league, SA20 which will be starting in January 2023.
The Paarl-based franchise chose David Miller who shined in IPL 2022 playing for Gujarat and the franchise also helped Gujarat Titans win their first title cup. He guided South Africa against a T20I series against England and Barbados Royals in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) season.
He has a lot of lot of experience having mustered more than 8600 runs in almost 400 T20 matches at a strike rate of more than 138 and Miller is also considered to be one of the best finishers. He’s very excited about leading the franchise in South Africa.

“It makes me immensely proud to have been appointed as the captain of the Paarl Royals. To be able to call it my home, gives me great joy. The people of Paarl and the Western Cape as a whole are great supporters of quality and entertaining cricket, and my ambition will be to lead the team in the right manner and give our fans countless memories to cheer their team on. We already have some top cricketers on board with the likes of Jos, Obed and Corbin, and I am looking forward to working with an exciting set of players to start this SA20 journey.”
The player auction is going to take place on September 19, 2022. The overall purse is of USD 2 million and can buy a maximum of 17 players. Based on the amount of the purse left over after the pre-auction signatures, they will be given the amount of money during the auction. Paarl Royals will have a total of four players along with David Miller. Star batter Jos Buttler, pacer Obed McCoy and all-rounder Corbin Bosch, have close connections along with their partner franchises.
