Rockstar Games has announced the official acquisition of Video Games Deluxe, the Sydney-based development studio. Established by the former head of Team Bondi Brendan McNamara in 2013, the studio has worked for years with Rockstar.
In the years since, it helped with some of the re-releases of L.A. Noire, created L.A. Noire: The VR Case Files in 2017, and most recently, contributed to the enhancement of Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition.
Rockstar Games Acquires Video Games Deluxe After 10+ Years of Partnership
Jennifer Kolbe, Head of Publishing at Rockstar Games, expressed excitement about the acquisition, stating that after years of collaboration, Video Games Deluxe is now officially joining Rockstar Australia. Brendan McNamara echoed the sentiment, calling it an honor to work with Rockstar and expressing enthusiasm for their future projects. Financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed. A date found in numerous industry cases, Video Games Deluxe was said to be recruiting for an open-world VR title for Rockstar back in 2020.
That being said, there hasn’t been much growth in the VR gaming market and it’s doubtful that the project is an active development. Instead, the studio is expected to work on other Rockstar projects, which include the highly anticipated Grand Theft Auto VI, set to release this fall.
The Grand Theft Auto V game launches on PC with some hefty technical enhancements as well for free, thanks to Rockstar. It also adds support for NVIDIA’s DLSS 3 and AMD’s FSR 1 and 3, along with ray-traced shadows, reflections, ambient occlusion, and global illumination.
It also enhances performance with faster loading times via SSD and DirectStorage support on compatible systems. Players can expect improved support for higher resolutions, aspect ratios, and frame rates, alongside DualSense adaptive trigger functionality. Audio enhancements include Dolby Atmos support and improved speech, cinematics, and music fidelity. The update is set to go live tomorrow and is already available for preloading on PC.
