A few new Red Dead Redemption mods have recently dropped, including some new visuals here and there, new gameplay elements, and historical accuracy fixes. Probably the biggest mod to come to the game in the form of the “Upscaled Everything” mod.
Despite the title implying a full-on rework of every texture in the game, the mod nonetheless currently aims to replace a wider selection of ambient in-game items as well, such as metadata posters, blood splashes, bullet holes, the moon itself, and even John Marston’s character model.
Red Dead Redemption Mods Add Historical Weapon Overhaul, Upscaled Textures, First-Person View
The mod creator also stated that they will be upscaling more textures in the future, but it will take some time to do so. This is a decent starting point for those looking to improve the quality visuals in a few sections of the game.
The “Guns of the Old West Historical Overhaul” mod renames weapons to give a more historical experience for players interested in that side of the game. This mod is great for gun lovers and players wanting a more life-like approach to the game’s gunplay system. The third big mod adds a gameplay feature — a first-person view mode.
There are some hiccups considering Red Dead Redemption wasn’t built to be experienced in first person — clipping while riding horses, most noticeably. The mod still allows you to play the game in first-person, though, which makes it a lot more immersive. To improve the experience, the modder suggests using the “ClipTweaks – FPS-DOF-FOV” mod, which provides a higher field of view for a more comfortable first-person experience.
Available now on PC, Red Dead Redemption 14 years after its original debut, on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. The game is also available on PlayStation consoles and Nintendo Switch, and fully backward compatible on Xbox Series X and Series S. These recent mods are a true blessing for players who want to enjoy the game anew, be it due to better graphics, gameplay, or general historical accuracy.
