Champions Real Madrid ended the 2021/22 La Liga season with a goalless draw against Real Betis last week. And the TV cameras seemed to have picked up the conversation between Marcelo and Lucas Vazquez, who were both left on the pitch that day.
Marcelo’s Current Contract with Real Madrid
In the conversation that took place between Marcelo and Lucas Vazquez, the Brazilian left-back revealed that the La Liga giants are not too keen about renewing their contract with the player, one that expires at the end of June.
The incident took place on Friday, May 20, when Los Blancos played against Real Betis at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu, the last match of the season against LaLiga Santander.
“The club is not going to renew [my contract],” Marcelo said in a video released by Movistar +.
“I have been a f**king example,” stated the Brazilian player. Lucas Vazquez listened to his teammate before responding.
“It’s incredible, man, we’re not aware, it’s not easy,” replied Lucas.
During Real Madrid’s Media Day ahead of Saturday’s Champions League final with Liverpool, Marcelo reiterated his desire to stay for another season.
Marcelo further reveals, “I want to stay, I’ve said it 50,000 times, but I’ll talk to the club after the final.”
The club’s Unwillingness to Move Forward with the Contract
However, the Spanish capital has no plans to extend Marcelo’s contract. Luka Modric is already aware of his intention to extend Real Madrid’s contract ending June 30, but Los Blancos’s coach will wait for the end of the season to make the final decision.
The contract between Isco and Gareth Bale will also expire, however, we are already aware that Real Madrid is not ready to retain services any longer.
In regards to Marcelo’s contract, Real Madrid didn’t yet convey their intentions.
