One of the biggest football leagues of the world, i.e., English Premier League has gained huge fame in the US since the last few years. Three broadcasters are currently competing in an auction for the TV rights of the league from the 2022/23 campaign to 2027/28.
The last deal in this regard was done 6 years back in 2015, which was a deal of one billion dollars. And at present, the Premier League is looking forward to double that price in selling its broadcasting rights.
The Bidders for the TV rights
Sources from the Financial Times state that there are a total of three bidders competing for the same in the US. These include Comcast’s NBC, Disney’s ESPN, and ViacomCBS. Among these, Comcast’s NBC is the current rights holder in the country.
Initially it was thought that the American audience might not be interested in the deal of the Premier League following the COVID 19 pandemic, as earlier they didn’t expect that the US rights would be doubled.
Also, on the other hand, ESPN acquired Santander’s TV rights for LaLiga in May. Reports state that it was a deal of 1.4 billion dollars with CBS showing the Serie A as well as the Champions League.
Premier League expected to experience a huge financial boost
Last week, reports from the Daily Mail stated that the Premier League is expected to experience a huge financial boost as they might secure a combined 11.6 billion euro deal by selling its TV rights to foreign and domestic providers in the years between 2022 to 2025.
As a consequence of these financial gains, the Premier League is set to continue its dominance by laying higher transfer fees and offering higher wages than the other clubs of the world.
