The Pokemon Company has announced its plans for the annual Pokemon Day fan celebration, which will be longer than usual this year. Instead, a week of announcements “from around the brand” would be made leading up to the actual date on February 27th, according to the firm.
On the brand’s social media accounts, you’ll be able to keep up with the announcements. The Pokemon Center merch store will also be releasing new items throughout the week, starting with today’s announcement of custom skateboards by Bear Walker featuring Mew and Gyrados.
Pokemon TV will also have curated collections of fan-favourite episodes and movies, according to the business. Every year on February 27, Pokemon Day commemorates the debut of the first Pokemon Red and Green in Japan in 1996. Pokemon celebrated its 25th-anniversary last year, in the year 2021.
“The Pokemon fan community is one of the most passionate and dedicated in the world,” said senior marketing director J.C. Smith, in the announcement. “We look forward to helping Trainers celebrate their love of all things Pokemon from the Pokemon Trading Card Game to the video games, mobile apps, animation, and more every year on Pokemon Day. Following Pokemon’s landmark 25th anniversary in 2021, one day did not feel like enough for Pokemon Day 2022, so we invite fans to join us in a weeklong countdown to February 27 and enjoy the daily surprise reveals and activations along the way.”
Pokemon Go and Pokemon Sword and Shield both had unique in-game events for Pokemon Day last year. New glimpses at New Pokemon Snap, Pokemon Brilliant Diamond, and Shining Pearl, as well as the first announcement and preview for Pokemon Legends Arceus, were included in a special Pokemon Presents video.
