According to speculations, Newcastle United’s life after Steve Bruce might begin with the signing of Ousmane Dembele. The Barcelona striker is open to joining Newcastle United next summer, with his future at the Spanish giants uncertain.
The France international has yet to reach an agreement on a new contract with the Nou Camp, and his present deal expires at the end of the season. After reaching a stalemate in his contract negotiations, there’s an increasing possibility that the forward could look for greener pastures elsewhere.
Following Neymar’s departure to PSG, Dembele joined Barcelona from Borussia Dortmund in 2017, with the Catalans spending a reported €105 million plus up to €40 million in add-ons for the forward’s services.
The France international has struggled to make an impression at Camp Nou due to injuries and fitness issues, scoring just 30 goals in 118 games across all competitions since signing. He has not played for Barcelona in 2021-22, presumably due to the club’s unwillingness to field him while he is in a contract dispute.
According to rumors in Spain, Dembele’s agent is in talks with Newcastle about his client may be transferring to St. James’ Park. Dembele is expected to sign a five-year agreement worth £12.6 million in Tyneside, with an additional £12.6 million incentive.
Following the conclusion of a £305 million buyout by a Saudi Arabian-led consortium earlier this month, Newcastle is expected to be a big spender in the next transfer windows. If Dembele were to depart on a free transfer, it would be devastating for Barcelona’s finances.
