The government of the United Kingdom has confirmed a new law that will come in the early phase of the next year, i.e., in 2022. The law states that online racist abusers will be banned from attending football matches for a long time of 10 years.
These measures are taken after facing a specific consequence when in Premier League, stars such as Jadon Sancho, Bukayo Saka, and Marcus Rashford were receiving online threats and racist abusive comments after all of them missed their penalty shots in the Euro 2020 final shootout in July against Italy.
Priti Patel in this regard
Priti Patel, the UK Home Secretary said in this regard that this summer they saw the beautiful game marred by much disgraceful racism from numerous online trolls, who primarily hid behind their keyboards and do the work of abusing their footballers.
Those individuals who are responsible for appalling racist abuse online must get a punishment, she added. The changes to the law she is announcing will certainly make sure that these abusers will be banned from attending football matches if further abused.
As per various personalities, the law introduced by the UK Government was indeed much necessary, today those three PL stars became victims, and tomorrow more footballers can be a part of the same. Hard times can go through the life of a footballer. But none of them deserves to get abusive comments.
The increase of abusive comments in the last few years
These particular cases where footballers are facing abusive comments have increased in the last few years. The measure taken against this was indeed necessary as it happened multiple times before. Premier League clubs even decided to boycott the platforms during the last season in a weekend in their bid to force the UK Government to impose tougher measures.
