It seems like the free agency negotiation periods are giving millions and millions of benefits to the athletes of the league as NBA continues experiencing new contracts worth several grants. This period began on Friday, July 1, in the NBA, and although new deals for transfers or contract extensions will not be officially signed until Thursday, July 6, the league’s franchises have burst onto the market with unusual force from the very first hours, closing multimillion-dollar deals.
In a few days since the opening of the free agency negotiation period, there have already been numerous moves, but some of them are worthy of going down in NBA history for their sheer size. In 10 contract extensions and one renewal alone, 1.815 billion dollars have been spent. Some of the big names, in this case, include Anthony Edwards’s signing with Minnesota Timberwolves for five years and 260 million dollars beginning with the 2024-2025 campaign, Nikola Jokic signing a five-year, 264 million dollar contract, and LaMelo Ball going to Hornets, and Tyrese Haliburton going to Pacers.
NBA experiencing young athletes as multi-millionaires
As mentioned, several NBA athletes are becoming multi-millionaires, with Anthony Edwards and LaMelo Ball being among the top names. LaMelo Ball, the 2.01m 21-year-old point guard who was selected with the number three pick, has also extended his contract with the Charlotte Hornets for five seasons and 260 million dollars, the maximum allowed by the NBA.
To get an idea of the enormous amount of money he will pocket, it is enough to remember that the legend Michael Jordan, until recently majority owner of the franchise, earned 94 million dollars in his 15-year NBA career, almost three times less than his former pupil.
