There were many brand-new, eagerly awaited releases in September, as there were in several other months this year. Baldur’s Gate 3, Mortal Kombat 1, Lies of P, EA Sports FC 24, The Crew Motorfest, and the Phantom Liberty DLC for Cyberpunk 2077 were the most notable PlayStation releases during this month. None of those games, however, was the most-downloaded PS5 game in the US and Canada for September; instead, NBA 2K24 laced up its sneakers and won the month with a slam-dunk performance.
This isn’t surprising considering that every time a new installment in the yearly series is launched, 2K’s NBA series is a top seller. Baldur’s Gate 3 won the competition for second place on the PS5 downloads chart. Mortal Kombat 1, EA Sports FC 24, and Madden NFL 24 came after it in that order. EA Sports FC 24 was the most downloaded PS5 game in Europe, according to Sony, which is not unexpected given the widespread adoration of soccer in those countries.

On the European charts, Baldur’s Gate 3 also placed second, followed by NBA 2K24 in third, The Crew Motorfest in fourth, and Mortal Kombat 1 in fifth. NBA 2K24 was once again the most downloaded game on the PS4 in the US, and EA Sports FC 24 won the top position in Europe. These results were virtually duplicated on the PS4.
It’s interesting to note that worldwide PS5 sales of Marvel’s Avengers have increased. It debuted in the US and Canada at position 14, and in September, it received the 13th-most PS5 downloads in Europe. This was the game’s final act as it had been formally removed from console and computer marketplaces and had seen a large price cut for its definitive edition. The Marvel live-service game was created by Crystal Dynamics.
