Atlanta United FC has a squad value of over 85 million dollars. MLS continues to grow, with more players -crossing the pond and making careers in the United States. Some players, such as Gareth Bale and Giorgio Chiellini, move to the US league at an older age, but Riqui Puig (22), Bernardeschi (28), Benteke (31), Lorenzo Insigne (31) will also be moved to MLS with a lot to provide to this sport.
That’s why squads are so valuable in MLS. Reddit user @u/tomado calculated the value of each MLS team , and compared it to other teams in other leagues, according to Transfermarkt.
The Results
A total of nine leagues were compared, the MLS teams within each league were presented, and the two competitions were ranked from most valuable to least valuable.
After five major league eliminations, the following divisions were selected: Portuguese League, Netherlands, Championship, Russian League, Belgium, Turkey, Brazil, Mexico, and Argentina.
The results have surprised us. Comparing Liga MX and MLS, the highest paid team is Atlanta United FC with $85.44 million followed by Monterrey with $80.52 million, Tigres with $77.99, and CF America with $76.67, and Toronto FC with $71.36 million making it to the fifth place.
A Similar Pattern Seems to Follow Amongst Different Leagues
Most of the time the same pattern emerges. The top clubs in each league are ranked high, including Portugal’s Sporting CP, Porto, and Benfica, Netherlands’ Ajax, PSV, Feyenoord, and Championship’s Watford and Norwich. But then came the Americans, who made up the bulk of the midfield.
Finally, the same pattern repeats at the bottom of the leaderboard. The lowest-placed teams in other leagues make up the bottom half and has no MLS team in the bottom five.
Atlanta FC will have the second most valuable team in Russia, fourth in Belgium and the Netherlands, and third in Argentina behind Boca Juniors and River Plate.
MLS is growing at breakneck speed. It’s a different, engaging, and dynamic league, with growing interest in local football. We’ve already seen that the values are very similar to European mid-sized leagues and it even outperforms South American competitions, the MLS is of high priority.
