This Wednesday, the Taiwan-based fabless chipmaker MediaTek stated that it would be hiring people for its India offices in FY22. The major focus of this hiring will be on Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies, home and enterprise segments, 5G, and wireless communications, among others, to scale up its R&D presence in the country.
“India is an important market for MediaTek, and we are reiterating our commitment and support to the government’s Make in India program by investing in local Indian talent and scaling capabilities to drive innovation for India and global markets.”
Last year, MediaTek invested about $2.6 billion, which is about 24% of revenues in R&D, and this investment is among the highest R&D spending by semiconductor companies. And this year, MediaTek has announced further expanding its R&D budget to over $3 billion for future business growth opportunities.
“We plan to hire aggressively from Indian campuses this year, to strengthen our research and product design capabilities across research centres in Bangalore and Noida.”
Findings from a recent report by Cybermedia Research (CMR) dictate that Mediatek has made in-roads into the value for money 5G smartphone segment, between Rs 7,001 and Rs 24,999. It has ties with global brands and provides technology spanning backend and frontend hardware engineering.
With the new hiring initiative, MediaTek focuses on skills such as protocol stack development, digital signal processing, Wi-Fi technology, and field testing. India is a huge market for opportunities that could make any who invest in 5G a world leader, and the market is ripe for business.
