The financial details behind Kylian Mbappe’s mega-new deal with Paris Saint-Germain have come to light.
The French player was expected to join Real Madrid in the summer, but his current club put forward a deal he just couldn’t refuse.
The contents of the contract were further discussed in details, in an interview with The New York Times, that was set to air this Tuesday.
As stated by the reports of the New York Times, for the three seasons that Mbappe has signed for, will be paid in $250 million, or about $83 million per season.
Mbappe to Receive the Largest Payout as an Out-of-contract Player in History
Several headlines following his decision to remain at PSG declared that the money offered by Qatar was too much to resist. The New York Times reported Mbappe as a contract bonus with the largest ever payout to an out-of-contract player in the history of the sport. The player is said to have received about $125 million.
However, he claimed in interviews that the huge amount of money he was offered did not compel him to make a final decision.
“Because wherever I go, I’m going to get money, I’m this type of player everywhere I go,” said Mbappe.
Mbappe also expressed his surprise regarding French President Emmanuel Macron’s persuasion to keep him at PSG and in the French top league.
“I never imagined I was going to talk with the president about my future, about my future in my career, so it’s something crazy, really something crazy,” Mbappe spoke of the call from the president.
“He told me ‘I want you to stay, I don’t want you to leave now as you are so important to the country’. He said ‘You have time to leave, you can stay a little bit more’.”
“Of course, when the president says that to you, that counts.”
