Manchester United have been linked to the 23-year-old Gakpo in the summer transfer market and are discussing a potential deal “internally”.
The 23-year-old Dutch winger scored 21 goals and 15 assists in all competitions for PSV Eindhoven last season. He’s picking up where he left off this season, with three goals and two assists already in just his four appearances.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano claims the winger ‘hopes’ to move to the Premier League this summer. However, Manchester United still seem to prefer Ajax star Anthony, with the Dutch international posing as a top choice.
Antony seems to have impressed Ajax and Gakpo is an equally exciting young player who has caught the attention in the Eredivisie – a league Ten Hag knows well from his time as Ajax manager.
Meanwhile, the Manchester giants are continuing talks with the camp of Juventus ace Adrien Rabiot after agreeing a €17m (£14.4m) deal for the midfielder with the Italian club.
Romano’s Thoughts Regarding the Move of Manchester United
A tweet shared by Romano stated, “Manchester United are discussing Cody Gakpo internally, he’d love PL move – while talks are still ongoing with Adrien Rabiot’s camp. €17m fee already agreed with Juventus. Gakpo’s one of the names in the list alongside priority target Antony – no official bid yet.”
United manager Eric ten Hag is looking to step up his attack after a sluggish start to the season following last weekend’s 2-1 loss to Brighton at Old Trafford.
The Red Devils have already lost Edinson Cavani, who left in June when his contract expired. Cristiano Ronaldo has also informed the club of his desire to leave in the summer as he wants to play in the Champions League this season.
