Mafia: The Old Country Release Date Set for August 8, 2025

Publisher 2K and developer Hangar 13 had initially announced that Mafia: The Old Country would be released this summer. However, a semi-official launch date has now emerged: August 8. This date was briefly discovered within a Steam post, which also mentioned a developer panel at PAX East. Tune in that day at 7 PM BST (2 PM ET) for a new Mafia gameplay trailer and a behind-the-scenes look at the past, present, and future of the Mafia franchise, courtesy of Hangar 13.

The panel will consist of a dive into the past 23 years of Mafia, a behind-the-scenes look at how the brutal world of 1900s Sicily was brought to life in Mafia: The Old Country utilizing Unreal Engine 5, as well as Q&A and other development features. They will be joined by Studio President Nick Baynes, Game Director Alex Cox, and Cinematics Director Tomas Hrebicek to answer questions, including those from the community. While that launch date mention was soon updated, sharp-eyed fans caught the original post.

Mafia: The Old Country was announced at Gamescom 2024 with an expected release in just under one year. The name alone hints at what the game will be about: its origins in Sicily during the early 1900s and the beginnings of the criminal organization. The players will be embodying Enzo Favara, a man who has endured a tortured upbringing – forced into child labor – and is hell bent on making a name for himself in Cosa Nostra, especially that of Don Torrisi’s family.

Over the course of the game, which will be set in stunningly real environments, players will experience a linear story; the combat will include both melee blade fights and ranged gunplay. Horses and early motorcars will also feature in some segments, too, as Enzo does. Powered by Unreal Engine 5, Mafia: The Old Country looks impressive, though system requirements have yet to be disclosed.
