The Women’s team of Lyon FC defeated the women’s team of Barcelona in the Champions League final, to win the title for the eighth time in history. It was indeed an impressive victory for the Olympique Lyonnais side, which defeated Camp Nou by a score of 3-1 on Saturday to win the 2021/22 UEFA Women’s Champions League title.
Lyon’s impressive performance
This match between Barcelona and Lyon was a perfect example of quality is indeed better than quantity. Barcelona players played more shots than Lyon and were ahead of their opposition in terms of ball possession and accuracy. However, the winners still dominated Camp Nou, as scored goals in the lesser chance they created. They got an early lead when Amandine Henry scored the first goal of the match in the 6th minute. In the first half only, in the 23rd and 33rd minutes, Ada Hegerberg and Catarina Macario netted their goals respectively.
Though in the 41st minute, Alexia Putellas was able to open the book for Barcelona by scoring the first goal for Los Blaugrana, the winning team’s players didn’t allow their opposition to score more than that. Although in the second half, Barcelona was more composed, and put more pressure on their opposition, but couldn’t laugh the last laugh.

Coming to the match statistics, Barcelona played 15 shots, whereas Lyon played 13, out of which 3 and 5 were on target respectively. Barcelona did 61% of ball possession and their opposition did 39%. The winning team played 349 passes and their opposition did 522 passes, with an accuracy of 73% and 84% respectively. Though Barca was ahead of Lyon in many points, ultimately the winners successfully went home with the UCL title on their hand for the eighth time.
