KKR registered a dominating victory over the 5-time IPL champions Mumbai Indians at the DY Patil Stadium on Wednesday and kept their hopes alive for the TATA IPL 2022 Playoffs. MI on the other hand, who were not having a very good time in this season, being knocked out of the tournament a long time ago, didn’t fight that well in the match too. KKR batted first and put up 165 for the loss of 9 wickets on the scoreboard. Coming to bowl in the second innings, they got MI all out in 113 in 17.3 overs. Here are 3 factors to consider from the match.
Top Order scoring runs
The top order of KKR played well and utilized the power play to its fullest. The openers including Venkatesh Iyer and Ajinkya Rahane came to bat, where the former started to hit the ball hard, and the latter played with patience. Iyer scored 43 of 24 balls with 3 fours and 4 sixes, and Rahane scored 25 off 24 with 3 fours. Nitish Rana coming to bat at number 3, also played well, scoring 43 of 26 deliveries with 3 fours and 4 sixes.
KKR Bowlers doing their Job
Though the KKR openers did their job well, in the first 10 overs, in the last 10 overs, they weren’t able to score many runs, being restricted to 165. The MI bowlers did their job well, especially Jasprit Bumrah, registering his best T20 figures in the match, which is balling 4 overs, and picking up 5 wickets, by conceding only 10 runs, along with delivering a maiden over.
But in spite of not being able to convert their start to a big score, the KKR bowlers still successfully defended the target. Special mention goes to Pat Cummins who came back in this match and picked up 3 wickets in 4 overs, conceding only 22 runs.
Impressive on the field
Not only did KKR bowl well, but they also had a great night in fielding. Though they missed two extremely hard catches, but made 3 run-outs to Mumbai Indians, and had some terrific catches too. This can also work as a positive vibe in their upcoming matches.
