    Jhulan Goswami breaks a record and joins an elite category that includes J. Srinath and Zaheer Khan

    On Tuesday, while allrounder Sneh Rana shone with the ball, taking four wickets to help India win, veteran pacer Jhulan Goswami chipped in with two wickets in her record 201st WODI appearance for India. The Indian women’s cricket team defeated their Bangladeshi opponents by 110 runs in match 22 of the ICC Women’s World Cup 2022 in Hamilton.

    Goswami and Her Unique Record

    Goswami made news of joining a select group of Indian bowlers that included legends such as Javagal Srinath and Zaheer Khan.

    The 39-year-old pacer joined former India men’s pacer Srinath at the top of the list of India bowlers to take a wicket in most World Cup matches after dismissing Salma Khatun in the 28th over of the second innings.

    Goswami and Srinath have each taken at least one wicket in 24 World Cup matches, while Zaheer has taken at least one wicket in each of his 20 World Cup appearances. Meanwhile, Diana Edulji (17 matches) and legendary skipper Kapil Dev (16 matches) have both returned with at least one wicket.

    Jhulan Goswami’s other Major Achievements

    Goswami made her 200th WODI appearance in India vs Australia match on March 19, making her the second women’s cricketer to reach the milestone after skipper Mithali Raj.

    On March 16, during India’s women’s match against England’s women, Jhulan became the first women’s international cricketer to reach 250 wickets in WODIs. The current World Cup in New Zealand is Goswami’s fifth appearance in the tournament, having originally competed in it in 2005.
