In the next central contract, the Board of Control for Cricket (BCCI) plans to raise player compensation. The central contract will have up to a 25% raise when it is released early next year, despite the BCCI not matching IPL contracts. Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and Jasprit Bumrah now make less money than Joe Root and Steve Smith, but that is expected to change with the money from the IPL Media Rights.
A senior official at BCCI said, “Yes, we are planning to increase the central contract slabs. The Grade A+ should have at least 25% increase but it’s not final yet. We are still in discussion.”
Joe Root, the former England Test captain, makes about Rs 9 crore, and Steve Smith, the famous cricketer of Australia, makes about Rs 10 crore. The highest pay for Indian cricketers is Rs 7 crores, though.

Indian cricketers make less money playing for their country abroad than they do playing in the IPL, as seen in the table below. But they make more than twice as much in those three months as they would have in the IPL. Rohit Sharma is paid 16 crores, while KL Rahul earns 17 crores, making him the highest-paid player in the IPL. As a result, IPL takes precedence over international cricket, and Indian players work to stay healthy during IPL.
According to the data below, Indian players make less money playing international cricket than they do playing in the IPL. But they make more than twice as much in those three months compared to their IPL wage. KL Rahul makes the most money in the IPL with a salary of 17 Cr, while Rohit Sharma comes in second with 16 Cr. As a result, IPL takes precedence over international cricket, and Indian players endeavor to stay healthy during IPL.

The table also highlights that the Indian Premier League outperforms the international level in terms of revenue. The popularity of the IPL, which has multiplied over time and has generated great income, is the cause of this. For instance, TATA paid Rs 670 crores for the title rights to the IPL. Paytm paid Rs 327 crores for the title rights to India’s domestic television shows, which are valid from 2019 to 2023.
