IPL auction 2022 has begun and Ishan Kishan has become the new cricket superstar. The Indian Premier League is one of the most exciting cricket tournaments. Cricket fans in India and across the world wait for the tournament the whole year. However, not just for the viewers, it is also exciting for the punters who bet on cricket. Many cricket betting sites in India give bettors the opportunity to bet on their favorite IPL teams or players. Interestingly, betting stakes are always high on the most expensive players during the auction. The IPL auction 2022 has seen some intense bidding as all the teams assembled their players. A few of the biggest teams have gone under the hammer and some surprises are still to be seen.
Ishan Kishan is the most expensive buy in the Indian Premier League auction 2022 as Mumbai Indians spent a whopping 15.25 crore INR for the wicketkeeper-batsman. Ishan Kishan seems to have made it big this time. He has been chosen by Mumbai Indians in IPL 2022 auction. Many teams had bid for Kishan, including Gujrat Titans, Punjab Kings, and Sunrisers Hyderabad. Before the bidding began, Kishan had set a base price of 2 crore rupees.
Ishan is Returning to the Mumbai Indians
Ishan Kishan is the most expensive player bought in the IPL auction 2022. He has been a part of the Mumbai Indians team for the last few seasons.
In 2016 and 2017, the wicketkeeper batter had been a part of Gujrat Lions. In his debut game, he scored 42 runs in 5 games. But in 2018, Kishan made it to the Mumbai Indians team.
He has played an average game during his tenure at Mumbai Indians. He scored 275 and 101 runs in 2018 and 2019, respectively for his team. But he wasn’t the player retained by the team before the IPL auction. With the auction, he made a comeback to the Mumbai Indians team.
It has also been very exciting for him. He expressed that he has missed the team and cannot wait to reunite with his team.
Who is Ishan Kishan?
Prodigies are not quite uncommon when it comes to Indian cricket. He is from Jharkhand. And after MS Dhoni, he is perhaps the most noteworthy cricketer to come out of the state. So, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that he became the wicket-keeping batsman.
Kishan came into the limelight in 2016 when he had been chosen to play for the Indian U-19 team to play in the U-19 World Cup, Dhaka. However, it was Rishabh Pant who was able to light the scoreboard and the team made it to the finals. This did not stop Kishan. He turned his fortune around with the Ranji season. He went on to be the top scorer for the Jharkhand team and has 799 runs, including his best 273, against Delhi.
Ishan Kishan is a talented player from Bihar but he had a serious cricketing journey due to the poor cricket infrastructure of the state and his sour relationship with the BCCI. It meant he had to practice the game somewhere else. This is the reason he moved to Ranchi, the city that had already thrown up a cricket superstar, MS Dhoni.
But uprooting his whole family to pursue his dream might not have been the easiest task. Kishan’s family had always believed him. As soon as he moved to Ranchi, SAIL grabbed the chance to make him play for the district tournament. By the time he was 15, he was already creating ripples in the cricket world and made a debut for Jharkhand in Ranji. Following this, he played in the U-19 team. He played U-19 World Cup 2016 under coach Rahul Dravid.
Harbhajan Singh Demand’s the Appointment of Ishan Kishan as the Opening Batter
Harbhajan Singh is keen on appointing Kishan as the opening batsman for IPL 2022. He has been in and out of Mumbai Indians. So, he is all set to open the innings with Rohit Sharma, the captain, for the upcoming three-match T20I series.
Harbhajan had been asked if Kishan has to be prepared as the backup opener in IPL. And he suggested that India needs to include Kishan and Rishab to play in the T20 innings. He has also said that Kishan is a ready player and there is no need to prepare him. According to him, it is one of him what the team can get out of him.
Ishan Kishan’s Role in Mumbai Indians Wins
Kishan has played a significant role in Mumbai India’s back-to-back wins in 2019 and 2020. The youngster has been the top scorer of the team in IPL 2020. He had 516 runs from 14 matches.
On Saturday, he has become the most expensive player in the history of IPL. In four seasons, Ishan has scored 1133 runs in 45 matches. Before the auction, MI had retained four players. The team managers had entered the auction with a sum of 48 crore rupees. And spent 15.25 crore rupees on Ishan Kishan, itself. Kishan has proved that his hard work has now borne fruit. Mumbai Indians have got a multi-faceted cricketer. He is a starry-eyed youngster, a power-hitter, and a first-choice keeper.
So, it is left to be seen how he plays in this IPL season. He is surely a superstar in the making.
