Suresh Raina is having a difficult time in his career. As ex-franchise CSK and Lucknow showed no interest in him, he went unsold in the IPL 2022 auction. He has now requested permission from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to play in international T20 tournaments such as the Big Bash League (BBL) and the Caribbean Premier League (CPL).

Active male cricketers are prohibited from competing in overseas competitions under BCCI rules, regardless of whether they have a national contract or are near to national selection.
Last year, Suresh Raina quoted: “I hope the BCCI can get together with the ICC or with franchises and allow players who don’t have BCCI contracts to play in overseas leagues.”
For the first time in the tournament’s history, Suresh Raina, who had a base price of Rs 2 crore, went unsold in an IPL auction. Because of his age and physical condition, CSK passed him up. Last season, the southpaw only appeared in 12 games and scored 160 runs at an average of 17.77, but he finished his IPL career with 5528 runs.

Interestingly, Unmukt Chand who recently made his debut in BBL and signed for USA cricket leagues after retirement from BCCI said: “These last few years have been tough. But I wasn’t going to give up on cricket completely. If I wasn’t getting enough opportunities to play in India, where were the next four or five crucial years of my career going to go? I still get emotional imagining that I will never get to play for India again. But I have made some special memories while playing in India.”
Yuvraj Singh was only allowed permission to participate in the Global T20 League in Canada after retiring from Indian cricket and the Indian Premier League. Irfan Pathan and Munaf Patel, for example, were allowed to play in the Lanka Premier League (LPL) after retiring. Pravin Tambe made his CPL debut with Trinbago Knight Riders versus St Lucia Zouks in 2020, making him the first Indian to play in the league.
