Fielders play a very significant role in any format of the game and can literally change the destiny of the game. A missed catch can cause a lot of damage to the team and mar their winning chance. In the T20I format, the best fielders are chosen on the boundary line where they are most likely to take a catch.
In this article, we’ll be talking about the top five fielders in the history of IPL.
1. Suresh Raina – 109
Suresh Raina has taken 109 catches in IPL, he is the only player to have over 100 catches in the league. Raina has played most of his IPL matches for Chennai Super Kings and led the Gujarat Lions team when CSK was banned for two years.
2. Kieron Pollard – 96
The second player to feature on this list is West Indies all-rounder Kieron Pollard. His height helps him in plucking up catches and this is also the reason why he has mostly seen fielding at the long-on or long-off region. He has taken 96 catches in the 178 innings in IPL.
3. AB de Villiers – 90
AB de Villiers has grabbed 90 catches in 130 innings so far. His catch per innings ratio of 0.692 is the highest for any player in IPL. AB de Villiers played for RCB for a long time now and was earlier part of the Delhi squad. In November 2021, he took retirement from all the formats of cricket.
4. Rohit Sharma – 90
Rohit Sharma apart from being the most successful captain of IPL is a great fielder too. He has taken 90 catches in the 213 games he has played so far. His catch per innings ratio of 0.422 is a good rate since he fields in those positions where the chances of getting a catch are very less.
5. Virat Kohli – 84 catches
Virat Kohli has played only for Royal Challengers Bangalore since the inception of IPL in 2008. He has taken 84 catches in the league history so far in 205 innings, his catch per innings ratio is 0.409.
