Shreyas Iyer is the new skipper of Kolkata Knight Riders and it has been official prior to the 15th edition of the Indian premiere League that’s going to commence from the third week of March.
This is what the CEO and MD of KKR have to say :
“We are delighted firstly to have been able to successfully bid for Shreyas in the IPL auction & to have the opportunity for him to lead KKR, He has impressed one & all as a quality batsman at the highest level & we are confident that he will excel as a leader of KKR.”
KKR snapped Iyer at the IPL Mega Auction 2022 for a massive amount of 12.25 crore after very competitive bidding. He played for Delhi Capitals in the last season but was released ahead of the 2022 auction. DC made its final bid of 9.5 crores to re-sign him but KKR managed to buy the player.
Kolkata Knight Rider’s most expensive buy will be leading the team in the 15th edition of IPL.
“I would like to thank the owners, management, and support staff of KKR for giving me the opportunity to lead this team. I am confident that we will find the right synergies to achieve the team’s goals,” Iyer added.
Shreyas Iyer has led Delhi Capitals in the IPL finale in 2020. Due to his shoulder injury, Rishabh Pant was made the skipper in the previous year and Iyer had no choice but leave the team.
“I am very excited to have one of India’s brightest future leaders in Shreyas Iyer, take the reins at KKR. I’ve enjoyed Shreyas’ game and his captaincy skills from afar. Now, will look forward to working closely with him to drive forward the success and style of play we want at KKR,” – KKR coach Brendon McCullum said.
