Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) is all set to hand over their captaincy to Faf Du Plessis almost after a decade in IPL. Last year, Virat Kohli stepped down as the skipper and AB de Villiers announced his retirement which made the franchise owners choose Faf Du Plessis. The South African skipper is all set to lead RCB. On the other hand, Glenn Maxwell will not be playing a first games due to Australian duty.
After the Mega Auctions got over, RCB had three options to choose their captain from, namely, Glenn Maxwell, Faf du Plessis and Dinesh Kartik. Out of the three Faf du Plessis grabbed the captaincy role.
Why is Faf du Plessis a good option for the captaincy role?
- Faf du Plessis has experirence as a captain in international cricket.
- He just retired from International cricket which means he will be available for the entire tenure of IPL.
- Glenn Maxwell who was another good fit for the captaincy won’t be available for the first few matches due to Australia’s duty.
- Dinesh Kartik who’s another fit for the captaincy due to his inputs from behind the stumps. His leadership skills aren’t as polished as his wicket keeping skills. KKR struggled under his captaincy and he stepped down as a captain in the midway through the season in IPL 2020.
Faf Du Plessis will be named as the new captain of RCB by next week.
Faf du Plessis revealed how Virat Kohli welcomed him to his new franchise, Royal Challengers Bangalore.
“I just got a message from Virat welcoming me into the squad which was very nice. I and Virat have got a good relationship over the years. Obviously, we have played a lot of competitive cricket against each other, especially international cricket when I was the captain and he was the captain of India. We’re both very competitive personalities, so it would be nice not to compete against him because I hated the fact when someone got me out Virat was running past me and shouting something in my ears.”
“Even through that, especially the last year or two, we started speaking a bit more often and that’s going to be a great opportunity for me to play alongside one of the world’s greatest cricketers we’ve seen. I am looking forward to that,”– said Faf du Plessis
