Christian Eriksen’s time at Inter Milan appears to be coming to an end before the end of the year, with both the player and the club allegedly agreeing to conclude his contract. Eriksen collapsed on the pitch during Denmark’s Euro 2020 match against Finland.
He was given life-saving treatment on the field at Parken Stadium in Copenhagen before being transferred to a local hospital and fitted with an ICD (Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator).
Wires connect the ICD to the heart, which transmits an electrical pulse to rectify abnormal rhythms. Eriksen is still under contract with Inter Milan, but his contract could be terminated soon as a result of the cardiac arrest, according to Italian daily Gazzetta della Sport.
Termination of the Contract
Christian Eriksen’s contract with Inter Milan is scheduled to expire after the player and the club decided to dissolve it. Eriksen suffered a heart episode while playing for Denmark versus Finland in the Euro 2020 qualifiers in June.
In Italy, those who have a defibrillator, like Eriksen, are not permitted to participate in contact sports. However, the 29-year-old might conceivably continue his career in a country where the rules are different. According to Gazzetta della Sport, ‘Inter supports and respects Eriksen,’ and that enabling him to leave the club to play elsewhere is in everyone’s best interests.
Eriksen was spotted using the facilities of his old club Odense’s Adalen training complex earlier this month, according to Danish outlet BT. He did not practice with the first-team squad, but he was permitted to work out with his trainer using the facilities.
His Plan to Return to Football
As per the BT report, Eriksen was kicking the ball in some drills on one of the training pitches around 8 a.m. He focuses on aerobic fitness, but he also integrates a ball into some of his workouts, according to sources.
The Danish midfielder has made 60 appearances for Inter since joining the club from Tottenham 18 months ago. He helped the Italian side win their first Serie A title in 11 years last season. Eriksen has a defibrillator implanted in his chest, which makes him unlikely to return to Inter Milan.
Eriksen, 29, was sent to the hospital in June and stayed there for six days before being released. During his six-and-a-half years in north London, Eriksen made nearly 300 appearances for Tottenham Hotspur.
Eriksen has deep ties to Odense, having played for the club before joining Ajax in Holland at the age of 16. Eriksen is claimed to have a house near the training area where he lives with his fiancée and two children, so Odense is convenient. He has yet to announce whether or not he intends to return to professional football.
