Intel earlier made an announcement stating that it will be discontinuing its wor and production of the company’s extremely overclockable Xeon W-3175X CPU, which comes loaded with 28 cores. The Intel Xeon W-3175X was the company’s answer to go head-to-head with the AMD Ryzen Threadripper CPUs. The lineup boasted a higher core count but, could overclock the CPU to achieve higher workloads.

The chip manufacturer states that the current demand in the market for their Xeon W CPUs was declining. The company has plans on focusing on its other Intel technologies.

It is no surprise when the Intel Xeon W CPUs have an MSRP of $2,999, along with the need for expensive devices, such as a compatible motherboard, advanced cooling options, six-channel DDR4 memory, and a PSU with high performance. On the other hand, the options offered by AMD and its Ryzen Threadripper family are more cost-efficient, along with more cores than Intel.

For now, we do have a non-overclocking workstation option from Intel that comes with the company’s Ice Lake-SP series which is essentially the Xeon W-3375 with a 38 core count and the Xeon W-3365 CPU with 32 cores.

The Intel Xeon W-3175X CPU was intended for high-processing workstations and boasts the capability of processing at 5.0 GHz while utilizing all cores onboard. The CPU has a 255W TDP base but can be increased immensely when overclocked, and it is a highly high power requirement. Not every motherboard in the market can achieve such a feat. Those who do are comparatively more expensive; this includes premium offerings from ASUS, EVGA, and Gigabyte.

For consumers that are interested in purchasing the Xeon W-3175X, they do still have plenty of time since the last date to order the CPU is April 29, 2022.  Intel is reportedly planning to finalize shipping on October 28, 2022.
