The India women’s national football team has climbed three positions to 56th ranking in the latest FIFA Women’s football team rankings.
The India women’s national football team had a disappointing exit from the AFC Women’s Asian Cup 2022 as the hosts struggled to name minimum players during the middle of the Group Stage of that competition due to the COVID-19-related issues in the team. As a result, they were forced to withdraw from the competition ahead of their second game of that tournament.
India women recently beat Egypt and Jordan to improve their rankings
After that heartbreaking incident in January, the Indian women’s national football team played two friendly matches against Egypt Women and Jordan Women in Jordan in early April. India Women won both those games by a 1-0 margin. While Priyangka Devi scored the winning goal against Egypt Women, Manisha Kalyan scored the solitary goal in the match against Jordan Women.
Those two recent victories helped India Women move up in the latest FIFA Women’s football team rankings. The Blue Tigresses have climbed from their previous 59th position to the latest 56th spot. Currently, they are the 12th best team among the Asian teams in the FIFA Women’s football team rankings.
In 2013, India Women reached their best FIFA ranking to the 49th spot. They have experienced better positions multiple times in recent years than their present rankings.
Besides the Indian men’s national football team, the Indian women’s national football team is also growing up in recent times.
Also, the current calendar year (2022) is very crucial for Indian women’s football. While India hosted the AFC Women’s Asian Cup 2022 last January, the country is also set to organize the FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup 2022 this October. Surely, these tournaments are essential to the growth of Indian women’s football.
