Rohit Sharma led the Indian team’s win by 6 wickets over West Indies in their 1000th ODI. He expressed his gratitude as he was able to recover from the hamstring injury. Rohit Sharma had scored 60 runs in just 51 balls as India gunned down a 177-run target with 6 wickets and 22 overs to spare in the first of a 3-match ODI series in Ahmedabad on Sunday.

The Positives to take from India’s victory

It is a new journey under Rohit Sharma’s captaincy as India will work on their shortcomings and can prepare better for the 2023 World Cup played at home. Earlier, India got defeated against South Africa in January exposed their flaws but still, the team will strive to play the World Cup with their best potential.

“We want to keep getting better as a team. The end goal is we should be able to achieve what the team wants. If the team requires us to do something different, have to do it. Don’t think we have to change a lot. All I ask from players is to keep challenging themselves,” he added.

Indian skipper Rohit Sharma believes their biggest positive out of the ODI series against the West Indies was their performance of the bowling unit.

“The biggest positive was obviously our bowling unit. The bowling unit, if I have to differentiate, the fast bowlers and the spinners, they did a great job in this particular series,” Rohit said at the post-match press conference. Along with Prasidh (Krishna), (Mohammed) Siraj was outstanding the way he bowled, with a lot of pace again, with the new ball and in the middle.”

Personally, Rohit liked the performance of Shardul Thakur and Deepak Chahar. The latter’s bowling skills were on point, he believes.

Karnataka’s bowled Prasidh Krishna also got a lot of praise from the skipper as he took nine wickets in the entire series. He’s definitely an asset for the Indian National team.

“We were looking for someone like him to come out and bowl those overs in the middle and get us those breakthroughs, and we saw that clearly, the way he bowled in the last two games, with a lot of pace. We could see that he was getting something out of the pitch as well.”– Rohit said about Prasidh Krishna.

Before the series, the skipper was not very confident about the middle- order but post the series his entire point of view has transformed.
