In the first ODI of India Tour of Sri Lanka, India had beaten Sri Lanka in their home ground. And now, in the 2nd ODI again, India beats Sri Lanka by scoring the 275 run target.
Sri Lanka won the toss and chose to bat first and made a competitive total of 275 for 9 in 50 overs. In reply, India reached 277 for 7 with five deliveries to spare.
India needed 16 runs to win in the last three overs and the duo of Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Deepak Chahar ensured the visitors do not lose any wickets and then guided the Shikhar Dhawan-led side to win with five balls to spare. With this victory, India has taken a 2-0 series lead against Sri Lanka.
Asalanka’s fighting fifty kept Sri Lanka ticking the scoreboard as the hosts reached 244 before he got out. In the last two overs, Sri Lanka scored 23 runs to reach 275 runs in the final six balls.
Chahal took the wickets of opener Bhanuka and Bhanuka Rajapakasa in back-to-back deliveries. This helped India to win the 2nd ODI against Sri Lanka.
At first, India started their innings in a good way but, when Prithvi Shaw and Ishan Kishan were knocked out by Sri Lanka then there was a backfall for India.
At the last Deepak Chahar has given a boost to India to win the match. Deepak Chahar entered as the no. 8 batsman. He made 69 runs in 82 balls. On the other, India’s vice-captain Bhuvneshwar Kumar has made 19 runs in 28 balls.
In the 2nd ODI Hardik and Krunal Pandya has been injured. So, it is a big loss for India.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar said that Rahul Dravid’s idea was to promote Chahar ahead of India’s Vice-Captain Bhuvneshwar Kumar. Rahul Dravid’s idea bear fruits. When Deepak Chahar came in front of India’s vice-captain, he played well and boosted the chance to win the 2nd ODI with Sri Lanka.
At 193/7 with Krunal Pandya, the last designated batsman back in the dugout, India still needed 84 runs to win. India thought that they would be defeated.
But Deepak Chahar came and made 69 runs in the last over against Sri Lanka to win, and this helped India to win the 9th ODI series against Sri Lanka.
Before, Deepak Chahar had scored half-centuries in domestic cricket, those came against Odisha and Bihar. Chahar’s highest score in IPL was 39 runs and in ODIs 12 runs.
“It was hot there, we did well there. Got two wickets. We managed to stop them at 270. It was a decent score [to chase] on this wicket. Only one thing that was going on in my mind: this is the kind of innings I’ve been dreaming of. No better way to win the match for the country. Rahul sir told me to play all the balls,” Deepak Chahar said after the match.
“He played with India A under Rahul Dravid before and he was good in those series. So, he knew Deepak can bat and hit a few balls well. It was Rahul Dravid’s call to send him ahead of me and the way he batted he proved the call right. He has batted well in Ranji Trophy few times so it wasn’t a tough call but it’s good to see the way he scored those runs,” Bhuvneshwar Kumar has said this in the post-match press conference.
“It was a similar situation. But we didn’t do much planning. The idea was to play till the last over and get as close as possible. But we never thought of winning the match. We only thought of batting as deep as possible. The way Deepak batted was just amazing,”
“As much as I know, there is no niggle and concern. I am sure he is fine as he came to bat. We will have to see,”
