For the forthcoming three-match ODI series against West Indies, which begins on July 22, Team India has named their 16-player roster.

Due to the absence of several notable players, including Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul, Jasprit Bumrah, and Rishabh Pant, Shikhar Dhawan has been chosen the team’s captain. Notably, Ravindra Jadeja, who will be eager to make an impression, will serve as Dhawan’s assistant in the series.

Notably, Team India is getting ready to play the hosts England in three ODIs and the same number of T20Is. Strong players were rested for the West Indies ODIs but a strong team was picked for the England series by the selectors.

The T20 World Cup 2022 is only a few months away, and the Caribbean trip also includes five T20Is. The regulars are anticipated to play in the series.

Dhawan previously led a backup team on the Sri Lanka trip, making this his second stint as India’s captain. The T20I series was lost by the Men in Blue 1-2, although they won the ODI series 2-1. Not to mention, Dhawan has recently been selected by the national selectors solely for ODIs, thus the southpaw needs to make the most of this chance.

Along with Dhawan and Jadeja, the group also includes players with international experience like Suryakumar Yadav, Axar Patel, and Shreyas Iyer.

Shreyas has experience managing IPL clubs, and considering his age of 27, many people anticipated that he would take the helm of the national squad in the absence of first-choice players.

The most conspicuous absentee from the roster is all-rounder Hardik Pandya, who led India in the T20 Internationals against Ireland last month. Although the cause of his absence is unknown, the selectors may have taken his fitness concerns into account. Sanju Samson, Deepak Hooda, and Ishan Kishan, for example, have been offered opportunities and would not want to pass them up.
