India’s new skipper Rohit Sharma is all set to star with his full-time ODI on Sunday as India is going to play against West Indies in their 1,000th one-day international and become the first team to accomplish this milestone.
The match is going to be held in Ahmedabad for the first match and will be played with no crowd due to the coronavirus pandemic.
India surpassed the 500,000 deaths from the virus last Friday though the infection rates have gone down.
India’s former captain Sourav Ganguly told an Indian magazine Sportstar “I was the captain of India in the 500th ODI. “It is a big moment for Indian cricket, but unfortunately, the match will be played without a crowd.”
Indian cricketers like Shikhar Dhawan, Shreyas Iyer and Ruturaj Gaikwad have been tested positive and are currently in isolation. Mayank Agarwal replaced Axar Patel and is going to partner with Rohit Sharma in the top-order.
Rohit Sharma who replaced Virat Kohli from the ODI captaincy was ruled out of India’s tour of South Africa by a hamstring injury. The visitors lost the Test series for 2-1 and got whitewashed 3-0 in ODIs.
Rohit’s comeback is likely to boost the hosts, and the star batsman acknowledged the compliment given by the broadcasters.
“Humbled by the lovely rap @StarSportsIndia Looking forward to be back on the field and take inspiration from the fans’ continued support as India takes on West Indies,” He wrote on Twitter.
In the West Indies team, Pace bowler Kemar Roach recalled to Kieron Pollard’s side and the spotlight will be on pace bowler Jason Holder. He had claimed a hat-trick and had an outstanding record of taking four wickets in four balls in the series-clinching T20 win over England.
