As we have heard reports and the reports indeed are accurate, Google is developing its in-house silicon that will power Chromebooks and tablets. It’s expected that the company’s plan will be reaching completion by 2023.
According to recent sources, Google might also be planning to use its Tensor chip in the upcoming Pixelbook 2. The tipster who shared this juicy detail has also shared some renders and additional information regarding the product.
The renders were shared on Twitter by user AI, and it shows the Pixelbook 2 in five colours; Orange, Green, Yellow, Blue, and Pink; and according to the tipster, the device will sport a 13.3-inch screen.
There are also some wild claims that this new will replace Pixelbook Go, and it’s interesting because the Pixelbook Go runs on Chrome OS. So, the Pixelbook 2 might be a Chromebook. The design of the Pixelbook 2 gives off MacBook Air vibes, with the chassis appearing to be made out of a solid piece of aluminium.
In the renders, we can also see that the Pixelbook 2 comes with a 3.5mm audio jack on the right as well as there exists a decent-sized trackpad, which we assume will feature a glass surface. All these specifications if they are true then it means that Google plans to target the premium Chromebook market, and the fact that it wants to bring out more custom chips to use in future products shows the company is serious about its hardware division.
There are also speculations that since the Tensor is originally silicon which Google is manufacturing to power its smartphones, many believe that the performance will only be subpar for Chromebooks. However, do remember that Chrome OS is a lightweight operating system, thus the chip should be able to handle it just fine.
