Sony and Santa Monica Studio have officially unveiled the Dark Odyssey collection, a new God of War Ragnarök update set to launch next week. This time around, that brings new in-game gear inspired by one of the franchise’s most recognizable outfits. Dark Odyssey is the biggest highlight, which was announced in a post on the PlayStation Blog as part of God of War’s 20th-anniversary celebration. Available free starting March 20, the new update features a gorgeous bevy of cosmetic items for all God of War Ragnarök players across PlayStation 5 and PC.
God of War Ragnarök’s Dark Odyssey Update Brings 20th Anniversary Cosmetics Next Week
Dark Odyssey gear features a black-and-gold color scheme that complements Kratos and his allies as they slay their way through Norse mythology. The update adds new cosmetic sets for Atreus and Freya, and the ability to upscale the look of different shields and weapons. The major new addition is the Dark Odyssey armor set and appearance for Kratos, based on a skin that was initially exclusive to God of War 2 for beating the game on God Mode difficulty.
Players can unlock these cosmetics from Lost Items chests in the base game, or obtain them instantly in God of War Ragnarök’s Valhalla mode. The update also uses a way to change the look of Kratos’ weapons (which players have requested since launch), able to use desired weapon styles without modifying a player’s powers. The new Dark Odyssey update features a complete armor set for Kratos including a Dark Odyssey Breastplate, Bracers, and Belt, and an exclusive character appearance.
Atreus gets the Dark Odyssey Vestment and Freya the Dark Odyssey Witch Frock. A range of weapons and shields also get Dark Odyssey-themed upgrades, such as fresh looks and attachments for the Leviathan Axe, Blades of Chaos, and Draupnir Spear. Shields such as the Guardian Shield, Dauntless Shield, Stone Wall Shield, Onslaught Shield, and Spartan Aspis also receive a matching Dark Odyssey design along with a Dark Odyssey Rönd.
God of War Ragnarök has been continually unfolding and growing since it was released in late 2022, so Sony’s 20th-anniversary celebration makes sure that the series’ deep history is honored. In addition to Dark Odyssey, Sony is releasing exclusive social media assets, an art showcase with Gallery Nucleus (Los Angeles), new merchandise, sales, and vinyl reissues of the franchise’s iconic soundtracks.
