Goa’s Mopa International Greenfield Airport had the first test flight on Monday, which was overseen by representatives of the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA). An IndiGo plane that was taxiing down the runway was used by the officials.

GMR Goa International Airport Limited, a subsidiary of GMR Airports Limited, developed the airport (GGIAL). It is based on the design, construct, finance, operate, and transfer (DBFOT) paradigm of public-private partnerships (PPPs). Along with offering freight services, this airport will be a full-service facility for both domestic and foreign travellers.

The airport provides services and amenities including, but not limited to, an integrated passenger terminal building, a cargo terminal, emergency services, flight catering, parking for vehicles, reserved services, and infrastructure for aircraft fueling.

Experts believe that the airport will bolster demand for second homes in the coastal state. Savills India was quoted as saying by news agency ANI, “One of the reasons for the interest in Goa is that the state has made significant progress in the last couple of years.”

All domestic and international flights to and from Goa were previously handled by the Dabolim airport, which is also a naval facility. Since no flights are permitted to land at the Dabolim airport between the hours of 9:00 am and 2:00 pm, only 70 flights arrive there each day. There would probably be 150 more planes landing in Goa once the Mopa airport is operational.
