George R.R. Martin, the author of ‘A Song of Ice and Fire’, confirmed the rumors of a sequel to the Game of Thrones focused on Jon Snow and added some fascinating details in the process.
In a blog post on Thursday, Martin explained, “Yes, there is a Jon Snow show in development.” According to the author, the report was based on a leak from an unknown source, not an official statement from HBO.
However, Martin has confirmed that Jon Snow’s HBO live-action sequel series is one of four currently in production.
About the Name of the Title of Game of Thrones’s Sequel
Martin also revealed that the working title of the series is simply “Snow”. This is clearly a reference to the unofficial name of the title character that is “given to all bastards born in the North.”
Martin further states, “Snow has almost as long a development history as the other three, but for some reason, it was never announced and it never leaked…until now.”
According to Martin, Kit Harington, who played Jon Snow for eight seasons of Game of Thrones, was the person who suggested ideas to Martin and HBO, as Daenerys Targaryen actress Emilia Clarke said in a previous interview. I also confirmed that. Martin praised Harrington’s own “great” showrunners and writers.
The previously announced trio of GoT spin-offs is the Amanda Segal-directed 10,000 Ships; 9 Voyages aka Sea Snake from Bruno Heller; and the Steve Conrad-penned Dunk & Egg prequel series entitled either The Hedge Knight or Knight of the Seven Kingdoms.
Of course, the House of the Dragon, a prequel series based on Martin’s Fire and Blood novel, is the only Game of Thrones spin-off series that has received a complete series order and will be at least a full season, guaranteed.
When the series debuts on HBO Max on August 21, 2022, it explores the Targaryen ancestry, which was strongly hinted at in the series but rarely explored.
