Forza Motorsport is here but the sales are not looking so good

According to GfK’s boxed sales figures, the newly launched Xbox platform exclusive Forza Motorsport did not make the top 20 highest-rated games sold in its first week in the UK. Previous Forza games had far stronger physical sales debuts in the UK, but there could be a very sensible explanation for why the new Forza Motorsport hasn’t made as big of a splash.

Physical sales aren’t what they used to be, with fewer people buying boxed video games than ever before. Indeed, reports suggest that certain retailers may discontinue sales of boxed Xbox games as the platform becomes more digital. Not only are digital sales increasing, but all first-party Xbox games can be played for a fraction of the price of buying them new.

Forza Motorsport being an Xbox exclusive seems to have hindered its sales

It appears that Xbox Game Pass is the reason Forza Motorsport failed to make the top 20 in its first week. It’s also worth noting that GfK’s statistics exclude digital sales, which means Forza Motorsport might still be performing well digitally even with Game Pass.

GfK’s report has revealed the top ten best-selling games in the UK for the week ending October 14, with EA Sports FC 24 claiming the top spot unsurprisingly. Assassin’s Creed Mirage, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, Lords of the Fallen, Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope, the Red Dead Redemption re-release, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, The Grinch: Christmas Adventure, Hogwarts Legacy, and Minecraft followed EA Sports FC 24.
