Epic Games has rolled out a major update to its fast-growing first-person shooter mode, Ballistic, introducing new content, gameplay changes, and performance enhancements. The new patch includes the long-awaited reintroduction of the Drum Gun, a rapid-fire weapon with a high damage rate and a large magazine. It can now be purchased from the in-game Buy Menu for 3,500 Credits, giving players access to a potent weapon for CQC engagements.

Epic is also adding two new maps that will release later in April alongside the new weapon. These maps will be available in early versions before the full environmental detail of the maps has been finalized, but the core room layouts will be set. This way, the development team can receive feedback from the player community, as well as improve the maps based on the players’ use in live matches. Another major determinant of the update is weapon balancing.
The Hammer Pump Shotgun received a slight increase in its close and mid-range damage, as well as a reduction in long-range damage and headshot multiplier, creating an incentive for aggressive, close-up play. The Frenzy Auto Shotgun, for example, now deals slightly more damage at shorter ranges, but less damage at distance.
The Reaper Sniper Rifle was updated to provide faster accuracy recovery after the first shot, as well as a larger magazine, helping it maintain its utility in longer-range fights. Epic has made adjustments to the game’s economy in response to community complaints. Epic has rebalanced most of the weapon costs and adjusted bonus credits at round end to provide more frequent pacing and strategic options throughout each match.

Communication between server and client has been improved to significantly reduce such simultaneous eliminations, and a multitude of visual and control bugs have been resolved to improve overall stability.
Epic still collects player feedback through surveys and forums while Ballistic is in active development. This update is a strong signal that the developers are focused on polishing the experience while they capitalize on one of Fortnite’s most exciting new modes.
