The Australian Test team has reached Rawalpindi, Pakistan to play their first Test match of 2022. The Aussies are touring Pakistan for the first time since 1998. The Pakistan Control Board (PCB) would give it all to make sure that the conduction of the series is trouble-free.
The Australian cricketers were seen wearing black armbands in the match in honour of Late cricketer Rod Marsh. He was one of the best wicketkeepers in the game and had his last breath on Friday, March 4. He received condolence messages from different nationalities. He actually suffered from a heart attack in the middle of an event last week and was taken to a hospital in Queensland.
His condition didn’t get better and he passed away at the age of 74.
The Achievements of Rod Marsh
Rod Marsh was one of the most popular and influential cricketers in the entire world. He had represented Australia between 1970 and 1984. He was a left- handed batter who had mustered over 4,500 runs in International cricket. As a wicketkeeper he had a tally of 355 dismissals which was the highest during his time of retirement. He was also a major part of the administrative department of Cricket.
In 2014, he became Australia’s chairman of selectors, a position he had held for two years.
Pat Cummins remembered the Veteran player before the match started and stated how influential he was as a player.
“Rod was a colossal figure in Australian cricket who gave close to 50 years of incredible service to Australian cricket, from his debut in the Ashes series of 1970-71, through to his time as National Selector, when many of the current group of Australian men’s players came into close contact with him,” Cummins said.
In the match against Pakistan, The hosts won the toss and opted to bat first. The Aussies have send three fast bowlers with Nathan Lyon being the spin bowler.
