Microsoft’s highly anticipated first-party title, Fable, has reportedly been delayed to 2026, and rumors suggest a PlayStation 5 version may be the reason behind the delay. It is possible that the current launch window for Fable being pushed back to 2026 was decided to accommodate plans for simultaneous launch on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, according to leaker NateTheHate, who previously released details about the Switch 2.

Fable Delayed to 2026, Leaker Suggests It Could Launch on PS5 Alongside Xbox Series X|S and PC Versions
“If I had to speculate why Fable was delayed, it’s to allow extra time for polish and to make the PS5 version a day-one release alongside Xbox and PC, as it was always slated for 2026,” NateTheHate wrote on ResetEra. He continued that although the reason for the delay is still unknown, there was already speculation about Fable releasing on PS5 a year after its Xbox and PC launch. With the new 2026 timetable, it’s possible that all platforms could share a release, as well.

That speculation resonates with Microsoft’s recent pivot to a multiplatform strategy. Meanwhile, the company has confirmed PS5 versions of big titles such as Forza Horizon 5 and Indiana Jones and the Great Circle. But Microsoft has historically held back PlayStation versions by multiple months to preserve Xbox exclusivity windows. If Fable released on every system at once, it’d be a marked departure from this.

It’s worth noting, however, that the company already announced a multiplatform release of Doom: The Dark Ages on May 15, meaning that simultaneous launches aren’t completely out of sight. Although there won’t be Fable this year, Microsoft will still have a good showing in 2025. Doom: The Dark Ages leads the way in May, with South of Midnight and The Outer Worlds 2 also expected to launch. Additionally, Avowed is now available on PC and Xbox Series X|S, giving fans plenty to look forward to before Fable’s eventual debut in 2026.
