The primary driver of the idea is Warner’s apparent interest in serving as captain of a Big Bash League squad.
David Warner, an Australian opener, has recently been in top form. He was spotted making some quality runs with the bat even in the IPL 2022, not just for his country’s team. But it has not been an easy road for him. Due to his role in the historic ball-tampering scandal, the talented hitter was given a one-year suspension from all levels of the game.
He was prohibited from leading the team for the rest of his life, therefore in addition to being unable to play cricket, the suspension also prevented him from holding the vice-captaincy. However, according to recent events, it is reported that the Australian’s suspension may soon expire, making him qualified to serve as the team’s captain.
According to a report by Ben Horne of News Corp Australia, Cricket Australia (CA) may review the leadership ban imposed on the former national vice-captain in the aftermath of the 2018 “Sandpaper-gate” issue. The chance that he will join a cash-rich, competitive T20 league is discovered to be the primary factor in this. Big Bash League teams may reconsider their decision to reinstate Warner’s eligibility for leadership roles in light of his apparent interest in doing so.
Notably, after pleading guilty to ball-tampering during the 2018 Test match in Cape Town against South Africa, the then captain Steve Smith, vice-captain David Warner, and opener Cameron Bancroft were all given bans by CA. Warner and Smith both got a 12-month ban from all international and Australian domestic cricket, while Bancroft received a nine-month suspension.
David Warner made a praise worthy comeback, this year
After it was discovered that Warner had planned the conspiracy to use sandpaper to change the condition of the ball, he was given a lifetime captaincy ban. Warner did, however, return to the international game with triumph thanks to his remarkable performance in the 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup.
He won Player of the Tournament honours for being Australia’s top player at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021. His time with Sunrisers Hyderabad also came to an end when the team released him and chose not to keep him following his disappointing performance the previous year. But this year, the 35-year-old made a huge return and delivered some outstanding performances for the Delhi Capitals, proving to be an X-factor for the team.
