But it has not been an easy road for him. Due to his role in the historic ball-tampering scandal, the talented hitter was given a one-year suspension from all levels of the game.
He was prohibited from leading the team for the rest of his life, therefore in addition to being unable to play cricket, the suspension also prevented him from holding the vice-captaincy. However, according to recent events, it is reported that the Australian’s suspension may soon expire, making him qualified to serve as the team’s captain.
According to a report by Ben Horne of News Corp Australia, Cricket Australia (CA) may review the leadership ban imposed on the former national vice-captain in the aftermath of the 2018 “Sandpaper-gate” issue. The chance that he will join a cash-rich, competitive T20 league is discovered to be the primary factor in this. Big Bash League teams may reconsider their decision to reinstate Warner’s eligibility for leadership roles in light of his apparent interest in doing so.
Notably, after pleading guilty to ball-tampering during the 2018 Test match in Cape Town against South Africa, the then captain Steve Smith, vice-captain David Warner, and opener Cameron Bancroft were all given bans by CA. Warner and Smith both got a 12-month ban from all international and Australian domestic cricket, while Bancroft received a nine-month suspension.
