The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has made a significant cash announcement in support of former on-field staff employees who were actively involved with the sport. Former players (both men and women) and umpires will have their monthly pensions increased by the cricket association. Around 900 people would be affected by this decision.
Meanwhile, it has been revealed that this raise was one of the Indian Cricketers Association’s long-standing requests (ICA). At the same time, the current BCCI secretary, Jay Shah, has announced that about 75 percent of employees will now get a 100 percent boost in their pensions.
BCCI announce an increase in monthly pensions of former cricketers and umpires
“I’m glad to announce an increase in the monthly pension of retired cricketers (men and women) and match officials,” BCCI secretary Jay Shah said on his official Twitter account. Around 900 employees will be eligible for this perk, with over 75 percent of them receiving a 100 percent rise.”
Meanwhile, according to the BCCI’s existing pension policy, all first-class cricketers who have played 25 to 49 matches up to the end of the 2003-04 season get given INR 15,000 per month. They are now eligible for a monthly stipend of INR 30,000. Those who have played 50 to 74 matches and 75 or more matches up to the end of the 2003-04 season are rewarded INR 22,500 and INR 30,000, respectively, under the present rules. They will now get INR 45,000 and 52,500, respectively, under the amended pension plan.
