Following this week’s very significant leak, a lot of people have been asking that question. Given how well-liked Elden Ring has been since its release earlier in 2022, its inclusion on Game Pass would undoubtedly be a huge event for the service. Sadly, it appears that the alleged breach was just a human error that surfaced for select individuals.
Some Xbox players started noting this week that Elden Ring was featured as a game that was compatible with Xbox Game Pass Ultimate on the Microsoft Store. Some saw this as a hint that Elden Ring would soon be available on Game Pass even though Microsoft and developer Bandai Namco had never officially announced it. Sadly, Microsoft has already acknowledged that this reference to Elden Ring on Game Pass was only a glitch that surfaced in the store. As a result, the newest action game from FromSoftware won’t be available on the service just yet.
This isn’t the first time that a leak of this kind on the Microsoft Store has led to fans believing that a particular game is about to be added to Xbox Game Pass, to put it generally. The same way we saw above with Elden Ring, Madden NFL 23 was advertised for Xbox Game Pass Ultimate back in June. Sadly, there was a glitch with the Microsoft Store that led to this just now. It’s unclear what stops this problem from being fixed, but Microsoft has to hunt for a solution so that fans don’t constantly think that particular games are joining Game Pass when they aren’t.
It appears possible that Elden Ring might eventually appear on Xbox Game Pass at a later time. However, given how well the game is still selling independently, Bandai Namco now has no compelling reason to add it to the subscription service. Elden Ring is the most popular game right now in 2022, and sales don’t seem to be going anywhere shortly. Elden Ring might eventually be up on Game Pass to offer the game new life for a new audience whenever these sales start to taper down.
