Elden Ring is the biggest new IP since The Division, which was released in 2016. It is doing well on the market worldwide. According to GamesIndustry, From Software’s upcoming game is not just the most significant new IP since 2016, but also the most significant game launch since Call of Duty: Vanguard in November 2021. Surprisingly, the significant majority of sales, 44 percent, have been made on computers. The PlayStation 5 accounts for 27% of overall sales, with the Xbox 16 percent and the PlayStation 4 accounting for 13%.

Horizon Forbidden West had a great launch, however, it wasn’t as massive as Elden Ring’s. Outside of the Call of Duty franchise, Guerilla Games’ open-world game is the biggest PlayStation 5 launch yet. Although, as GamesIndustry points out, the free PlayStation 4 to PlayStation 5 upgrade and the lower price of the previous generation version may have influenced the sales data, the current-gen platform has accounted for 59 percent of total sales.

I tried hard to find any faults in Elden Ring, but no matter how hard I tried, I couldn’t find any outside of some technical issues that the developers could fix via patches. I firmly believe that perfection doesn’t exist and that it is always possible to improve, but I really couldn’t think of anything that Elden Ring could have done better. As such, the game wholly deserves a perfect score, an honor I would have given only to a couple of other modern games, not only for its extremely high quality but also for what it accomplished with its open world and for how it will surely influence video games as a whole in the future.
