Elaine Thompson-Herah of Jamaica won the Women’s 100 m final at the Tokyo Olympics. Not only just emerging victoriously, but she also made a new Olympic record in this event in crossing the finishing line in just 10.61 seconds. The previous record-holder was Florence Griffith Joyner, who completed the race by taking just a 0.01 second time more, at the 1988 Seoul Olympics.
Jamaica fully dominated this event, as Elaine Thompson, along with her two teammates from Jamaica Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce and Shericka Jackson completed being second and third respectively. All three of them won the gold, silver, and bronze accordingly for their country.
The race
With the starting of the race, initially, Elaine Thompson didn’t react faster compared to others. However, with the halfway mark don’t, i.e., after 50 meters she paced up and took the lead. Also, the second and third rank holder, Shelly-Ann-Fraser-Pryce, along with Shericka Jackson, showed their brilliance in the last 20 meters, by competing against Marie-Josse Lou.
In the final part of the race, it just happened like a photo finish, with a fraction of a second decider, deciding 10.74 seconds for Shelly-Ann-Fraser, and 10.76 seconds for Shericka Jackson.

Elaine Thompson said that she is very excited and happy as well to come back and retain her title. Her chest hurts, and she is glad.
Before the kickoff of the event, there was the event of introducing the players under a spotlight, in the starting area. The stadium was plunged into darkness. Here she looked stony-faced. She was focusing on the event, and the challenge to get her title back, and next to Fraser-Pryce.
Elaine Thompson also gave a clue earlier that she will perform well in the finals, being in a good form with finishing her semi-finals with just 10.76 seconds.
