The 35-year-old Uruguayan striker Edinson Cavani is reportedly set to join popular Argentine club Boca Juniors.
Cavani is currently a free agent player after ending his contract with the English Premier League club Manchester United last June. While the Uruguayan was Man United’s third most goal-scorer in the 2020/21 season with 17 goals in 39 games, his fitness issues denied a smooth run the last season (2021/22) as he made only eight starts along with 12 more substitute appearances and scored only two goals.
Edinson Cavani to Boca Juniors
One of the greatest Uruguayan footballers Cavani is now reportedly ready to sign for Boca Juniors. It is going to be one of the biggest ever signings in Argentine football history. The 35-year-old is likely to sign an 18-month deal with the club.
Previously, Cavani named Boca Juniors as his favourite Argentine club. So, there is not much big shocker that the Uruguayan is moving to the popular Argentine club.
The free agent Cavani has several offers from European clubs. The Spanish La Liga side Villarreal was also very excited about signing him for the new season. However, the experienced Cavani is now showing more interest in South American football than popular European football.
Edinson Cavani is still a very important name in Uruguay national football team. In 2022, he has scored five goals in seven matches for the national team, which is an exciting status ahead of their journey to the FIFA World Cup 2022 at the end of this calendar year.
Edinson Cavani: Club career
Cavani started his senior football career for the Uruguayan club Danubio in the 2005/06 season. In January 2007, he signed for the Italian club Palermo after finishing as the top goal-scorer in the South American Youth Championship 2007 (seven goals).
In 2010 summer, Cavani moved to another Italian club Napoli. At the end of 2012/13 season, the Napoli footballer won the Capocannoniere award for scoring the most goals in the Serie A season. After that season, the Uruguayan moved to the French club Paris Saint-Germain.
In PSG, Cavani won two successive Ligue 1 top scorer awards (2016/17 and 2017/18). At the end of his PSG career, the Uruguayan became the first player to score 200 goals for the club.
In 2020 summer, Cavani joined Manchester United. Now, this summer, he is ready to return to a South American club as the Argentine side Boca Juniors is close to signing him.
