Funcom has provided an update on Dune: Awakening, confirming that its release on May 20 will be a full launch rather than an Early Access period. The multiplayer survival game, based on Frank Herbert’s Dune universe, won’t require a subscription, despite its MMO positioning.
Dune: Awakening Launches May 20 With Free Updates, No Subscription, and Deluxe Editions Offering Early Access
Instead, the game will be coming with updates for free and DLCs which are optional. Funcom noted that as it continues to support decades-old MMOs like Anarchy Online and Conan Exiles, Dune: Awakening will receive similar post-beta updates, expansions, and improvements. The Standard Edition of the game costs $49.99, but there is also a Deluxe Edition ($69.99) and Ultimate Edition ($89.99) available with five-day early access and exclusive in-game content.
The Deluxe Edition adds Sardaukar armor, while the Ultimate Edition includes Paul Atreides’ stillsuit, a digital artbook and soundtrack, exclusive color patterns, and the Caladan Palace Set featuring unique building pieces and decorations. Plus, the game’s Season Pass (included with Deluxe and Ultimate Editions) gets you four DLCs, the first of which is available on launch with the game.
All pre-orders, regardless of edition, will grant players a universal color pattern for customization and an exclusive in-game decoration, the Terrarium of Muad’Dib, featuring the desert mouse from Dune. Funcom also announced the PC system requirements for Dune: Awakening and its support for cutting-edge rendering technologies: Nvidia DLSS 4 with Multi Frame Generation, AMD FSR, and Intel XeSS 2.
