After Sergio Busquets, Diego Llorente is the second player from Spain who has tested positive for COVID-19.
The Spanish international plays for Premier League club Leeds United. Leeds signed Diego Llorente on 24 September 2020 on a four-year deal. He is in Spain’s national squad for the EURO 2020 which will start on 11th June 2021.
But he has now tested positive for COVID-19. So he will be replaced by any one of the players in Spain’s parallel bubble squad. Llorente will leave tonight in a medicalised vehicle.
Spain has decided to keep 6 players in parallel bubbles as a backup. If any player has tested positive for COVID-19 from the main squad, they will replace their places for the EURO 2020 tournament.
Spanish head coach Luis Enrique hopes that there will be no more issues because he is trying to prepare the team for the EURO 2020 tournament.
Spain said in a statement: “The RFEF regrets to announce that central defender Diego Llorente has tested positive in the last PRC tests carried out this morning (Tuesday) at the national team base.
“He will leave tonight in a medicalised vehicle, following the established health protocols. The squad will continue to work with the routines established in COVID 19 situations.
“Personalised training will be maintained to continue with the preparation of the European Championships.
“Training sessions for the players in the parallel bubble will continue on Wednesday at 11:00 am under the command of Luis Enrique in response to the setbacks suffered in recent days.”
