Bungie has officially unveiled its content roadmap for Destiny 2 under the banner “Year of Prophecy,” marking a bold new era for both free and paid players. The upcoming content consists of two major expansions — The Edge of Fate and Renegades — and two huge updates: Ash & Iron and Shadow & Order. It is the first time the game has released four big chunks of content in a year, with the two expansions costing money and the updates coming for free.

The Year of Prophecy begins with Rite of the Nine, a free update available now and introducing a reimagined dungeon content experience that brings content back with new twists. The Edge of Fate expansion will launch on the 15th of July, bringing with it the enigmatic Nine, new ally Lodi, Warlock Ikora, and new destination Kepler. This space holds the mystery and puzzle-solving challenges created by a classic dungeon.
In addition to that, big gameplay changes are coming, such as a change to the armor system and a new activity menu called the “Portal,” which will have players choosing between Fireteam Ops, Pinnacle Ops, Crucible Ops, and new Solo Ops. Some of The Edge of Fate pre-order bonuses include an Exotic Ghost and Legendary Emblem. More content is available in other editions, including a second campaign (Renegades), exotic weapons and gear, and bonus cosmetics.
Renegades is out December 2 and is largely inspired by Star Wars, a sci-fi take on Destiny’s inimitable story mode. Before that comes the Ash & Iron update, due Sept. 9, and Shadow & Order, scheduled for March 3. These announcements come at a crucial time for Bungie, which faced significant layoffs in 2024. Meanwhile, the studio is also preparing to launch Marathon, a rebooted PvP shooter expected to arrive in September. The year ahead looks promising for Destiny 2 fans and Bungie alike.
