Barcelona legend Dani Alves, currently playing for Sau Paolo had been called to represent Brazil in the Tokyo Olympics 2020. The Brazilian previously attempted to play in the Olympics twice and now in his third time, he has succeeded as he made his Olympic debut at the age of 38.
Dani Alves started in Selecao’s opening match against Germany in Tokyo Olympics on Thursday as Richarlison scored a hattrick to give Brazil a winning start.
The right-back is still in top shape despite his age and he has expressed his excitement to finally play at the Olympic Games.
Alves told the press ahead of Brazil’s opener, via Marca: “Being here is a really special feeling.”
“I’ve been lucky enough to get here at the third attempt. I tried twice before and didn’t make it, and at the third attempt I’ve made it. So, here I am.”
“I’d like to say thanks for the opportunity to be here.”
Alves responded when asked about whether his age will play a factor: “Those who know me know I have a young spirit.
He further continued: “As it’s my first time here, the feeling is even more special.”
“I can say that my experience will be similar to those who are coming here for the first time.”
“Despite the fact I’ve had some big moments in the past, I still have butterflies in my stomach and I hope I can reach the levels expected at this tournament and for our national team.”
