While the English Premier League club Chelsea have just sorted out their ownership issues, they are likely to face a nightmare in the upcoming summer transfer window due to losing too many defenders.
The ongoing Premier League season will end this Sunday (22nd May). After this final day of the PL 2021/22, we will slowly get official news of transfers.
Chelsea had more than a decent season
Under the manager Thomas Tuchel, the defending UEFA Champions League winners Chelsea reached the quarter-final of the UCL 2021/22. While they have a good chance to finish in the third position in the PL 2021/22 points table, they also finished as the runners-up in the EFL Cup and FA Cup this season. However, the Blues won UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup this season.
So, we can easily say that it is still a very good and proud season for Chelsea despite no major trophy or late ownership drama. But the club now has to prepare themselves for the upcoming summer transfers nightmare.
Some Chelsea defenders are likely to leave this London-based club just after the end of this season. According to the latest transfer rumours, it will easily create a big hole in Chelsea’s defence as there are many big names on the list.
Chelsea transfer rumours – Antonio Rudiger, Andreas Christensen and others
After the recent FA Cup final defeat against Liverpool, Thomas Tuchel admitted that they would lose the crucial centre-backs, Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen. While both of their contracts will end soon, both of them are unlikely to go through resigning process in the club.
Rudiger is reportedly ready to move on to the Spanish giants Real Madrid, while Christensen is likely to join another Spanish giant Barcelona. However, this is just a part of Chelsea’s nightmare.
According to some media reports, the left-back Marcos Alonso and the skipper and right-back Cesar Azpilicueta will also leave this club in the forthcoming summer transfer window. Both of their present Chelsea contracts will end in 2023 summer. But just like Christensen, Alonso and Azpilicueta can also sign for Barcelona in this summer.
All these four names are very powerful in Chelsea’s defence. If the Blues fail to hold any of them during the upcoming transfer window, it can be proved disastrous for the club.
Moreover, there are some recent rumours about Real Madrid’s recent interest in the right-back Reece James.
The Blues must have to find out immediate solutions
While there is a very short time in hand, the West London club must have to bring some powerful solutions. Chelsea are unlikely to afford to lose these many regular defenders in one transfer window, but they also have to set out some other plans quickly as the proper replacements.
Tuchel will surely be under pressure in the forthcoming transfer window, but he will try his best to save this club. Whatsoever, the present situation is horrifying for the Blues. Moreover, here we are not talking about the transfer rumours in midfield and forward positions of the club.
